Jenny's palm tree

Today at the Diana Jones Senior Center, Carmen helped Aurea embroider a heart to mark her church in Woodside Queens as an important place for arts and culture, a place where different people come together, and the heart of her community.  Although Aurea lives in Queens, she spends her days at the various senior centers of Bushwick.

Carmen added some flowers to the northeast corner, above the symbols of Puerto Rico.
And Jenny added a turquoise star at her house on Seigel Street.  She explained that it is a place where different people and birds flock together since she feeds the pigeons off of her balcony.  She also added an earring with a tiny dollar bill design that is a souvenir from Puerto Rico and thought it would make a nice ornament for the palm tree.
