A participant at Ad Hoc Gallery sews his heart of Bushwick

community mapping as participatory embroidery

On Sunday, CAPITAL B held its monthly open meeting around the theme of ecology and sustainability at Ad Hoc Gallery on Bogart Street.  After the meeting, we invited our partners and the public to embroider into a fabric map of Bushwick.  People marked with different color stitches the places they live, work, feel safe and unsafe, consider to be gentrified, and places where different people come together.  Over the next two months, I will be installing the map in public places, community centers and event spaces all over the neighborhood and invite everyone to embroider their shape of Bushwick.  Read more about the fabric map  and where it will be installed here.
